1. Take Only What You Need. If you are planning on shopping all day, then don’t take a twenty pound purse with you. Unless you plan on going all the way back to your hotel after every store, you’re going to be tired very quickly. Not only are you going to have to carry your purse with you all day, but also all of the items you buy. If you are shopping for a new wardrobe, trying to carry fifteen bags and your purse around is really going to get heavy quickly. Also, it is easier to lose track of things if you are juggling your bags. Losing that seventy dollar skirt can be a damper on your New York shopping experience.
2. Take Comfortable Shoes! Unless you can teleport yourself where ever you want instantaneously, I suggest that you take some really comfy shoes to walk around in. High heels get really uncomfortable after a few hours, so trying to get to all the sales quickly may be asking too much from your feet. They don’t have to be your old ratty shoes that you would hike in, just a semi-used pair of tennis shoes that you can walk around in for a few hours while you go shopping.
3. Get a Map! When you start planning your vacation, be sure to plan activities and know how to get there and how to get back to where ever you are staying. Being lost in any city is bad enough, but being lost in New York is a whole new kind of lost. The tall towering building and winding streets can be a bit confusing and overwhelming. Be sure to have a very good idea where you plan on going and how to get there. You don’t want to take a taxi just to go two blocks down.
4. Take your own make-up. Unless you feel the need to go to New York and buy make-up until your heart is content or your wallet is empty. Then remember to stalk up on your usual brand and take it along. Make-up is usually outrageous prices anyway, so save some money and buy your make-up needs before you leave.
5. Drink Plenty of Water. While hitting all the sales and seeing all the sites, make sure you are drinking plenty of water. Try to avoid drinking a soft drink with every meal. Cut back to one per day that way you stay hydrated and can do more shopping! You should enjoy your shopping in New York, not spend it dehydrated. If you don’t like drinking water, you can buy the flavored water. Just be sure to stay hydrated.
