Tips on How to Pack for Camping

Going camping and you can’t seem to find any more room in your luggage? Are you taking three suitcases for a week long trip? Is there not enough room for the tent, all of your food, and your luggage? These are some frequent problems that people getting ready for a camping trip run into. Some ways to avoid this are:

1. Just pack what you need; do you really need a curling iron and/or a straightener? This can be really hard for some of us, it’s so hard because we don’t like being unprepared and we want to be ready for any situation that may arise. Who knows who you may bump into in the woods? When we pack too much, then we end up with a bunch of suitcases and no hands to carry them with. Plus, depending on where you are camping, there may or may not be electricity, so you won’t be able to curl or straighten your hair anyway. Just leave them at home and being a few extra pony tail holders and a baseball cap. Plus everyone is going to be just are scruffy as you, just embrace it.

2. Leave your shoes at home. Of course I don’t mean, don’t bring any pairs of shoes. I am merely suggesting that you leave the greater majority of your shoes in your closet. Why would anyone want to possibly ruin five pairs of shoes in one trip? If you haven’t been camping before, let me clue you in that shoes get really dirty on most camping trips. Between the hiking, swimming, and canoeing your shoes will take a beating and will show it. Just take a pair of your old comfy shoes and a pair or two of flip flops and you will be good to go.

3. Pack food that won’t go bad quickly. Taking an egg salad or potato salad isn’t a really good idea. The mayonnaise in those salads, if not kept cool enough, will go bad and make everyone that eats it sick. Check the labels of all the food you plan on bringing and see at what temperature they need to be kept at and plan accordingly. Peanut butter and jelly is easy and is really hard to mess up. You can make a few sandwiches before hand, or just take a jar or peanut butter, a jar of jelly, and a loaf of bread and you are set. Hot dogs and marshmallows are great cooked over a campfire as well. Camp food may not be a gourmet meal, but it works and you won’t starve to death or get sick.

I have to agree with all of this! I used to care about what I looked like when I was camping. But now, I don't bring anything unless I absolutely need it! All I bring clothes wise are soffe shorts, t-shirts, and sweat pants! Who cares what you look like when you are camping?!?! We are all grungy anyways! Plus, the showers aren't that clean anyways, so it's not like you are getting extremely clean anyways. But I love camping, so it doesn't matter to me if I am extremely clean on a weekend trip of camping!!
