A Little Extra Cash to Spend

You decided it's time for a family vacation. California is great this time of year so you book a nice resort right off the beach. It's in San Diego, which is a great choice because there is so much for kids to do. You're right by Lego Land, the San Diego Zoo, and Sea World. The whole family can't wait to go. You book your plane tickets, the rental car, and you're all set. Before you know it you've spent WAY more than you even imagined. When planning family vacations it's easy to get carried away. You want to have a good time, which your suppose to, but there are better ways to save money. California is known for the beautiful beaches and great sunsets right off the water. Why not go for a hotel across the street? You can still see it, and it will be cheaper since it's not right off the water. A little walk isn't that bad now is it? Another thing, when eating out with the whole family it can burn a hole right through your pocket. I recommend when looking for a place to stay to spend a little extra and get a place with a kitchen. It is worth it in the long run. Who wants to eat out every meal anyway? Look for grills outside and have a BBQ. Lastly, it's California and pubic transportation is widely used. Don't spend all that money on a rental car. With the price of gas these days you could end up spending a fortune. Catch the bus or hop on a train. Who knows it could even end up being fun. Even if you just use one or two of these tips the money will add up. Leaving you with a little extra cash to spend.

If your in San Diego you have to eat at an In 'n' Out at least once, I'm pretty sure its a law of some sort. If you're tied to the military, active duty/retired/dependent ask about a military discount wherever you go, the marine corps west coast recruiting station is right in San Diego, and Camp Pendleton is about an hour north in Oceanside, so there's discounts where you wouldn't even think to ask, and it saves a lot of money.

These are some pretty good tips on how to save money. But any vacation you go on, you are going to spend more money than you had originally planned. And yes, I agree with tagger on the military discount! That will save you so much more money! Also if you or your spouse has a LPD license, at certain hotels you get a discount. Just always look out for discounts!!
