So for Spring Break '09, I am definitely considering L.A. as a possible hot spot to hit with some of my closest friends. Besides from soaking up the sun I've already found some places that caught my attention and would be in my agenda as for places to go while in L.A.. Your gonna notice that my selections are kind of all over the place; that's just because when I visit a new destination I want to take with me a bit of everything it offers.
- Described as "A Must-See" Getty Villa, is a two-story museum, which displays thousands of exhibits, the majority based on old Roman and Greek history and mythology. From the reviews that I've read it sounds like a very beautiful place with scenery's of natural gardens and pools. At the same time it is very educational, offering a film at the beginning of the tour which explains the villa and its design. I really like this place because the history of the Trojan War and characters of mythology to me seem really interesting, and this place offers all types of historic information and art regarding both topics. People of Roman and Greek roots go in order to learn about their lineage, so you should go there in order to learn about your true roots.
- Although I might not be the most religious person you'll meet, Cathedral of Our Lady of the Angels is one place that caught my attention. Even if you don't mean to go and say a prayer just go to admire its beauty. It is the second cathedral to be built in the U.S. in the past 50 years, and not only that, but it has actually been compared to France's famous Cathedral of Notre Dame regarding its majestic structure.
- Movie fan? You're in for a treat when you take the daily tours of both the Sony Pictures Studio Tour and the Universal Studios Hollywood. Here you get to walk on the same floor that Will Smith and Tommy Lee stood on while battling those gooey wacky aliens. Don't like aliens? If you prefer to have a super hero, come because Spidey jumped from skyscraper to skyscraper in those same studios. When you go DO take your camera because you never know if you'll bump into one of favorite Hollywood stars.
- Put some comfortable walking shoes now because we are headed to the Hollywood Walk of Fame. This landmark in L.A. is basically just a strip of sidewalks that are adorned with the stars of many of Hollywood's most famous people, from the writers of the movies to the actors who win the Oscars for the roles. There are over 2,000 starts already laid on the pavement, but no worries you'll get to see all the wants that YOU want. There are maps which show where the star of your favorite stars lie, instead of you having to walk half of the strip without spotting a single one.
- This last one is my personal favorite. Olvera Street, is the place where it all began. Historically it is the first street that ever existed in L.A.. It has a lot of Spanish influence since it was built by the Mexican community who first occupied L.A.. What I like the most about the place is that it seems that no matter what day of the year you go, everyday is full of festivities. From the celebration of El Cinco de Mayo, which is Mexicans Independence Day, to El Dia de los Muertos, day of celebrating the dead, to finally celebrating the well known Mardi Gras filled with yellow, green, and purple beading.
Now that you know of all these different or unique places are you ready to pack up the suitcases and go to L.A.? I know I am!
