~Camping Mishap~

My dad always taught me to be prepared, no matter what, be sure to pack for every situation. He always said that duct tape will fix anything and if it can’t then you didn’t try hard enough. Of course when my two best friends and I went camping over spring break our senior year of high school we forgot to double check our supplies and weren’t as prepared as we should’ve been. We were super excited that we were doing something on our own and that finally we didn’t have our parents telling us what to do. If they tried, then we made sure that they knew we didn’t need their advice, we were adults. We thought we had packed everything, but we hadn’t.

We arrived and everything was going very smoothly, we got our tent up, a fire going. After dinner we chased a few raccoons away, but we were having a good time. We were enjoying the fresh air, the open skies and the fact that none of our parents were there to tell us what to do. The second night rolled around, and I had just fallen asleep when one of my friends turned to me and said she felt like she was getting wet. I knew that it was sprinkling outside, but I didn’t think anything of it. I just told her that sometimes the tent leaks when it rains, but everything would be alright. She tried to ignore it, but the she said it was getting worse. I had notice that it was raining a bit harder, so we turned on our flashlights and there was an enormous rip it the ceiling of out tent. It wasn’t just a six inch gap; it was a two foot, three inch rip in our tent. To this day we aren’t sure of whom or what ripped it, but we were freaked out. I swear it was those ridiculous raccoons. If only we had some duct tape, we could have patched it up quickly.

Instead, we spent the night in a wet tent. Then next morning we had to call my parents to help us out. My parents weren’t too pleased and we were mad that we couldn’t rescue ourselves. My dad of course gave me the speech on how duct tape is so useful, that I should never leave the house without it. The rest of our camping experience went more smoothly, but my parents kept calling every hour to make sure we were ok. And of course my little brother felt the need to tell the whole school about our little camping mishap. It was really embarrassing, we weren’t too happy about the whole school knowing about it. And to this day, my parents still tease us about it; I am still a little sore about it. Then again, I had a really good time with my friends and I learned a lot on that trip.

I'm sorry but I have to agree with your dad. You should never be caught without duct tape. It is one of the most useful things in the world whether you need to repair something or you have an amazing idea to make something out of duct tape. When I was young I used to make wallets out of duct tape. I thought duct tape was the coolest thing ever.
